Separately, a robust market exists on Telegram, where groups with thousands of members share comparison images, administration instructions and claims of rapid UK delivery. Vendors promote the drug there before redirecting buyers to WhatsApp for purchases.

Retatrutide is an experimental injectable created by US drugmaker Eli Lilly. The drug targets three gut hormones – glucagon-like peptide-1, GIP and pancreatic hormone. Early trials indicate it could assist individuals lose up to a quarter of their body weight. Nicknamed the “triple G”, the drug is being promoted online as the next Ozempic.

However, doctors and pharmacists have cautions that the sale of what remains an unapproved drug in the United Kingdom is worrisome and could result in users administering products of unknown origin.

Typing “retatrutide” instantly displays groups with numerous of members, populated with images of slimming results, glowing reviews and detailed guides for preparing or injecting at residence.
After moments of entering one group, a vendor shared WhatsApp details, where most purchases take place. The seller provided an guidebook and guaranteed shipping within two days. When asked whether the product was authentic, one seller responded: “You can’t be sure.” Another provided a photo of a supposed laboratory certificate. None asked about weight, medical conditions or past usage.

Within these groups, messages show black plastic parcels with postal service stickers, stating to include fresh supplies. One message read: “It took eight of us to load them this morning.”

A medical professional of an online medical service connected the surge in demand to recent cost increases for approved slimming drugs such as Mounjaro. “With prices increasing, patients are using online platforms. But counterfeit injections are extremely risky. You cannot know what’s contained or whether the conditions they were made in was sterile,” she said.
Her team has previously seen individuals injured by self-injection from unverified suppliers. “We understand the frustration, but buying from Telegram or WhatsApp is taking chances with your well-being,” stated Wyllie. “These materials could be impure or improperly measured.”
