Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
